Autobiography

       I, Breharu Trifan Teodor, the son of Trifan and Rafila, born on March 06 1914 in the village of Petresti from Mintiul Gherlei, Cluj county, having the residence in Cluj-Napoca city, 1 Universitatii street apt. 17 had obtained the military rank of Honorary Brigade General, by Ordinance #172 from 8th May 2000 .
I have had my civil studies as follow:
  • I graduated the primary and secondary school in the city of Gherla.
  • In Cluj-Napoca city I graduated the Faculty of Judicial Science, being afterwards diplomat and jurist. In the army cadre after graduating the Infantry Officer in Reserve School I received the under-lieutenant rank in reserve (r) by I.D.R. #1944 from June 08 1940.
       I was incorporated in the #81 Infantry Regiment from Dej city, subsequently transferred at #91 Infantry Regiment from Alba-Iulia city, with whom I left for the East war front. Being a front company commander, at Stalingrad (U.S.S.R.) for brave endurance opposing to the enemy attack - saving from imminent surrounding the #20 Division Infantry - I was bestowed with "Mihai Viteazul" Order, Third Class.
The decoration brevet mentions:

       "Under lieutenant in reserve Breharu Teodor, from Infantry #91 Regiment, for his exceptional braveness and spirit of sacrifice proven in the battles of the day of 11.20.1942, in charge as third company commander, when after a fierce preparing attack fulfilled with fire-holes of all caliber (guns t.n.) and fusillade cannons, the enemy attacks with roughly two battalions and ten - twelve battle cars his company's sector. Albeit with anti-cannon weaponry almost destroyed, Under-lieutenant Breharu Teodor succeeds to stop the enemy attack causing him big losses. He continues the batte and holds off the enemy attack until he is surrounded and resists until his company became totally overpowered by the superior enemy forces."

       Seeing that the front was perforated on flanks by the armored enemy tanks those had destroyed artillery position and attacked us from the back. As result the enemy troopers took the rest of us who were still alive in captivity. From the Oranki (U.S.S.R.) concentration camp we were informed daily about the front situation learning about the failure of the German army on all its fronts, looming the defeat.
Being in this circumstance - after Stalin's promise - that the northern Ardeal, ripped from the homeland's body by
Vienna Diktat will be again part of the Romania, I accepted voluntarily the enrollment to the "Tudor Vladimirescu" Division for taking part at liberation of my childhood native places and completeness of my country. Being enrolled in the second infantry regiment at Major Policy having the rank of under-lieutenant, I took part of the battles from Ilieni-Sfantul Gheorghe, as well as Baile Felix, Oradea, from Debretin (Hungary), until the Hron river. For those achievements I was given the higher rank of Captain and I received the medal "Romania's Star" (the fifth order and the fourth order) and being transferred in the army's active cadre enrolled in 1935 promotion with seniority of Captain in the day of 03.10.1942.

       As the war ended I was transferred to various military units, at Major Policy quarters as chef of Battle Preparation Office (Second Regiment, Mountain Hunters, Dej city) and also in superior economical services. Not being a member of the communist party I was treated with mistrust.
I realized then the only essential condition for surviving was to be part of the communist party. I wasn't accepted in the communist party for the following reasons:
  • Has received the medal of "Mihai Viteazul" on the battlefront against Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (U.S.S.R.);
  • Has sustained officers from available cadre;
  • Has the lineage of kulak.
       I was obliged to hand over the medal of "Mihai Viteazul Order". Afterwards I was transferred in reserve with the rank of Captain which I had on the front, not having the right to obtain a different job other than unqualified operator. Only by assiduous work and doing tasks for some communist party principals from different Construction Units I succeeded to obtain a job of main economist.
After Romanian revolution from December 1989, new horizons have been opened for the war veterans, those being appreciated at their true value. My valuable medals received for army braveness were (re)confirmed. I took part at national festivities and symposiums, at oath swearing in military units, I was given the title of
Honorific Citizen of Cluj-Napoca city and therefore I was given back all the citizen rights.
I took part of the most precious country's appreciation by receiving the military rank of
Brigade General (in reserve) according to the decree no. 172 from 8 May 2000.
